Highlights from the November 19, 2020 Prince Rupert Labour Council meeting include:
- The guest speaker for the meeting was David Smith of the Unemployment Action Centre. David discussed the history of the Labour Council in helping start the centre. He also shared some of the priorities and campaigns of the centre.
- There was an update on the Strategic Renewal process. This includes looking at how to include the entire North Coast region in our work and how to unite across communities, local unions, and people throughout the region. We will continue discussing ideas. In May, the Labour Council will decide on possible By-Law changes, including a change in the name and structure of the Labour Council.
- We decided to rent a postal box, to disconnect the phone, and to store our files with the Prince Rupert District Teachers’ Union. We will likely continue to meet on Zoom for the foreseeable future. Our work can be done in home offices and in offices of local unions. There is little need to maintain an office.
- New signing officers were designated. The administrative transition is almost complete as we shift back online as a Labour Council.
